Sustaining growth in the American economy now is the most pressing task for the U.S., President Obama's chief economist said Tuesday.
To get sustained economic growth is "fundamentally important," Austan Goolsbee, chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, said during the National Association for Business Economics economic policy conference.
The U.S. economy has moved from financial rescues to growth and policy changes are needed to emphasize longer-term investment, Goolsbee said.
He noted that the world's largest economy has seen six quarters of economic expansion and consecutive months of job creation, but job losses suffered in the recession are equal to the combined three previous recessions. |
