Japan's household spending drops 1.0% year on year in Jan. |

Japan's average household spending dropped 1.0 percent on year in January, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said on Tuesday.
According to the official figures, average household spending stood at 289,191 yen (3,537 U.S. dollars) in the recording period, marking the fourth straight month of decline.
The 1.0 percent decline, however, was less than median economists' forecast for a 1.4 percent drop and followed a 3.3 percent slide in December.
But the ministry highlighted that the monthly change showed a rise of 1.0 percent in January, beating median forecast of a 0.5 percent increase.
Spending by wage earner households fell 1.3 percent in January from the same month a year earlier to 317,907 yen, with the monthly income for salaried households dropping 3.5 percent to 419, 728 yen. |
