Iranian Deputy Oil Minister Alireza Zeighami said Iran's gasoline production capacity will increase by about 10 million liters to reach 55 million liters per day by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2011), the English satellite Press TV reported on Sunday.
Zeighami said gasoline production capacity of Iran will hit 55 million liters a day when the development projects of three major refineries in the country come on stream in next February, said the report.
"Currently the projects are ahead of schedule and one of the refineries will become operational three months sooner than expected," he was quoted as saying.
He added that the country has no problem to meet its gasoline demand, noting that Iran currently produces 45 million liters of gasoline per day, according to the report.
In September, Ali Asghar Arshi, manager of international affairs at the National Iranian Oil Company, said that Iran started to export its first shipment of gasoline.
The United States, European Union and some western countries have approved sanctions on some forms of energy exports to Iran to make the country halt its sensitive nuclear program.
As the fourth largest oil producer, Iran lags behind in oil refinery and relies heavily on imports of refined petroleum and other energy products. |
