Russian presidential aide Arkadi Dvorkovich said on Friday that the country has more than 50 percent chance to join the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2011.
Currently Russia remains the only world's economy in a bid for the WTO membership for more than 15 years, though the accession process usually exceeds no more than seven years. The country is also the largest economy remaining outside the global trade watchdog.
The accession preparation will take from two to four months, after which the accession procedure is expected to begin for two or three months, RIA Novosti news agency reported.
In October, Russian president Dimity Medvedev and U.S. president Barack Obama confirmed the bilateral talks on Russia's accession were completed successfully.
On Oct. 20, U.S. President Barack Obama's economic advisor said Russia's accession to the WTO may be completed within 12 months.
Last month, Putin also said Moscow was unlikely to join the WTO by the projected date of Jan. 1, 2011. |
