South Korea's trade account stayed in the black for the seventh consecutive month in August on the back of strong exports, the nation's customs office said Wednesday.
According to a report by the Korea Customs Service (KCS), the nation's trade surplus reached 1.72 billion U.S. dollars last month, down from July's 5.50 billion U.S. dollars surplus.
The figure came as exports gained 27.7 percent on-year to 36.97 billion U.S. dollars, while imports grew 28.6 percent to 35.25 billion U.S. dollars in August.
The country's trade account stayed in positive territory, although the absolute amount marked a decline, thanks to the record-high exports.
The report, meanwhile, showed South Korea's trade surplus topped 24.34 billion U.S. dollars during the first eight months of 2010.
During the eight months, the total exports logged 299.01 billion U.S. dollars, compared to imports that marked 274.67 billion U.S. dollars. |
