France likely will meet its 1.4 percent economic growth target this year, government officials said Thursday.
"All the economic indicators showed that the government strategy set to face the downturn bore fruits. We're almost on the same path as Germany if we add the recession of 2009 and the recovery in 2010," the local daily Les Echos quoted Budget Minister Francois Baroin as saying.
France, which is struggling to improve its financial indicators, has pledged to accelerate growth to 1.4 percent this year and to 2 percent in 2011 after falling by 2.5 percent in 2009.
"It is certain now that we will be in line with forecast growth of this year and probably a little above which reinforces the prospect of an increase in activity of 2 percent next year," Baroin said.
The government was also expected to remove 10 billion euros (12.7 billion U.S. dollars) in tax loopholes in the autumn. The state operating spending will fall by 10 percent by 2013 from 5 percent in 2011.
"We maintain our commitment to achieving 10 billion euros (12.7 billion dollars)in savings on tax loopholes within the autumn budget documents," Baroin said. |
