Vietnam targets to achieve annual economic growth rate of between 7.5 percent and 8.5 percent in the 2011-2015 period, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment on Monday.
The ministry announced Vietnam's annual growth target in the next five years at a seminar held here on Monday to get consultation and feedback for the draft socio-economic development plan for Vietnam in the 2011-2015 period.
In the draft plan, Vietnam also sets a goal for the country's export turnover to increase by 12.2 percent annually from 2011 to 2015.
The ministry envisaged that the industry and construction sector would contribute the most, about 40.7 percent, to the country's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2015. Tertiary sector and the agro-forestry-fisheries area would make up a share of 40.3 percent and 19 percent respectively.
Other targets made in the plan included the renovation of growth model and the increase of quality of sustainable development.
To reach the goals, Vietnam will continue to restructure the economy, create a fair, transparent and stable business environment, and develop infrastructure and high-quality human resources in key sectors of Vietnamese economy, according to the plan.
Speaking at the seminar, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Cao Viet Sinh said high growth and sustainable development are closely linked. For Vietnam, economic growth rate of over 10 percent can be considered high.
John Henry, a United Nations coordinator in Vietnam said Vietnam can learn experiences from other countries in building a socio-economic development strategy.
The country should have a specific strategy in which climate change, energy savings and environment issues are taken into account, said Henry. |
